Organoleptic Characteristics of Green Pellet Concentrate Made from Indigofera, Turi, and Lamtoro
Abstract
Majene Regency has natural resources that support goat farming, including the potential to improve productivity through the provision of concentrate feed. The use of tree legumes, such as Indigofera, turi (Sesbania grandiflora), and lamtoro (Leucaena leucocephala), in the form of green pellet concentrate can provide adequate sources of protein and fiber while reducing dependence on conventional concentrates. This study aimed to analyze the organoleptic quality of green pellet concentrate formulated with different proportions of Indigofera, turi, and lamtoro. The study employed a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments with four replications. The treatments were P1 (30% Indigofera + 30% turi + 30% lamtoro), P2 (60% Indigofera + 0% turi + 30% lamtoro), P3 (30% Indigofera + 60% turi + 0% lamtoro), and P4 (0% Indigofera + 30% turi + 60% lamtoro). The results showed that the formulation significantly affected the color and texture of the pellets, with P3 exhibiting superior physical quality. Meanwhile, aroma and mold growth were relatively uniform across treatments, indicating that the pellet products were stable, safe, and suitable for use as feed for Peranakan Etawa goats. Based on the organoleptic evaluation, P3, consisting of 30% Indigofera, 60% turi, and 0% lamtoro, was identified as the best formulation, producing the most favorable color and texture characteristics.
